A message from our Minister. . .

David's letter1

For many of us Labour Day marks the end of summer.  On Labour Day, I spent an enjoyable afternoon in and around North Beach Provincial Park with my friend Marcella and my mother’s “little pooch,” Kaleigh.  It was warm and a little hazy.  The strong wind produced some great waves and kite-surfers sped across the bay.  By mid-afternoon, many holiday-makers had left.  A few took in the last rays of sunshine but most headed home as workplaces, businesses, schools and universities beckoned.

As the summer months draw to an end, we too at Eastminster hope that you will include us in your back-to-normal-life activities.  We hope that you will find our 10:00 a.m. Sunday Worship Services friendly, engaging, and a good opportunity to regularly centre yourself on God.  Christian faith, however, is often nurtured in community and to this end, I will be leading a new study group entitled Living Faith on Wednesday evenings.  Living Faith will examine issues such as Christian faith, the Bible, church history and the relationship between Christianity and other religions.  The study will begin on September 27th at 7:00 p.m.  For the young people of the church, our Director of Children’s Ministries, Sherrie Tipper, is preparing a great program for the children including Sunday School and a few family night activities which are sure to excite the children.  The first of these is on the Friday before Hallowe’en and will give the children a time to try out their costumes, play games, and perhaps get an early start on “trick or treating.”  Lots of other activities are planned for the Fall. Think about joining us for golf and dinner on September 24th, a pot-luck chili luncheon on October 29th, the UCW Bazaar on October 28 and 29, and the return of the Time and Talent Night on November 18th.

Please join us as much as you can this Fall and in the midst of living, find places for the God who gave us life.
